Our little girl is kicking

Posted by Rachel Friday, January 6, 2012

People kept asking me if I've felt our little girl moving yet and I would tell them no. The majority of the time they always responded with disbelief followed by them telling me what it should feel like because obviously I should feel it by now ("It a little flutter", "like butterflies but different", "It feels like fingers running along your insides"). This was a little frustrating since this started when I was still around 19-20 weeks or so and my doctor says first time moms usually start feeling the baby between 20-24 weeks. Well over Christmas vacation (at 21 weeks) I've started to feel little movements, really quick and gone usually before I can even tell if they are actual movements, but fun still. So yesterday (22 weeks along) I'm sitting at my desk at work, inevitably in the post holiday haze of wanting to still be on vacation when our little girl decided she didn't want to be there either. I started to feel her move a little and I wanted to see if you could feel her movements on the outside so Michael could feel her too. I pressed on my stomach to see if I could feel her and received three swift kicks right on my hand. It was really cute! I'm so sad it happened at work though and Michael couldn't feel her. I tried to get her to repeat it last night but she's her own person and decided she doesn't perform on demand haha. Hopefully he will be able to feel her soon! It is still kind of surreal that we are having a kid but little things like this are definitely making it more real.

  2. Huh, that's funny about what your doctor said, because mine said between 16 and 22 weeks. But she also added she wouldn't worry if I hadn't felt the baby until about 23/24 weeks.

Also, just as a heads up, Michael may not get to feel her super often. Clark only felt the baby kick on THREE occasions during my entire pregnancy. And the first time wasn't until 26 or 27 weeks in (even though I could feel her on the outside). And each woman is different, and each baby is different (so this may be a non-issue for you), but don't beat yourself up if one moment she's kicking but quits by the time he makes it over. Just take your time!

I'm still so very excited for you!

  3. My dr said 16-22 weeks as well. I felt Sebastian right at 16 weeks! I was laying down reading and bam! Felt like a knock on my stomach. Ha! It took a few weeks until Luis felt him. That's normal. I just laid down on the bed nice and still and Luis would start talking and holding my belly. Sebastian started to always respond to his dad that way.

Congrats Rachel! This is so exciting!!!
